2023 HOWARD DAYS SCHEDULE
THURSDAY APRIL 27
2-4 PM: The Robert E. Howard Museum is open to the public. There are no docents on duty. The Gift Shop is open and the grounds and Pavilion are available to all.
6:30 - 8:30 pm: Senior Center Dinner & Dance in Treadway Park. $7.00 per person. Cornbread, beans, dessert served.
FRIDAY APRIL 28
8:30 am until gone: Coffee and donuts in the Pavilion
9 am - 4 pm: Robert E. Howard Museum and grounds open to the public. The adjacent Alla Ray Morris Pavilion will be open all day until late night.
9 am - 4 pm: REH Postal Cancellation Souvenir at Cross Plains Post Office. FRIDAY ONLY.
NOTE: the Cross Plains P.O. is CLOSED for lunch between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm.
9 - 10:45 am: BUS TOUR of Cross Plains & surrounding areas. FRIDAY ONLY.
10 am - 4 pm: REH Foundation Press canopy and Dealer's Area open on grounds east of Museum.
10 am - 4 pm: Cross Plains Public Library open. Original Robert E. Howard typescripts along with original Weird Tales magazines will be on display
11am - Noon: PANEL: 100 Years of Weird Tales. Panelists: Bobby Derie, John Betancourt + others At Cross Plains Methodist Church
NOON: Hot Dog Lunch in the Pavilion. Hosted by Project Pride.
1:30 - 2:30 pm: PANEL: The 3 Musketeers of Weird Tales: Panelists: Mark Finn, Bobby Derie, Jeff Shanks + others. At Cross Plains Methodist Church
2:30 - 3:30 pm PANEL: The Glenn Lord Symposium. Jason Ray Carney, Moderator. Presenters: Dierk Guenther, Brian Murphy + one other. At Cross Plains Methodist Church
Following this panel: Presentation of the 2023 REH Foundation Awards. Rusty Burke, Bill Cavalier
4 pm to ?: Informal Panel: Howard's Women. Hosted by Janice Schange + others, held at the Coffe Shop on Main Street.
5:30 pm: Silent Auction items available for viewing & bidding at Banquet site.
6:30 pm: The Robert E. Howard Celebration Banquet & Silent Auction at the Family Life Center of the Baptist Church on Main Street. Guest of Honor Speaker: John Gregory Betancourt.
9 pm PANEL: Fists at the Ice House. Our perennial favorite presentation about Howard's most prolific writings, his boxing stories. Presented behind the Ice House on Main Street (next to Subway) on the concrete slab where Howard actually boxed!
REH Fellowship in the Pavilion will continue. Special Poetry Reading: The REH Poems in Weird Tales.
SATURDAY APRIL 29
10 am to 4pm: CROSS PLAINS SPRING FLING FESTIVAL in Treadway Park, 1 block west of the Museum.
9 am - 4 pm: Robert E. Howard Museum and grounds open to the public. The adjacent Alla Ray Morris Pavilion will be open all day until late night.
9 - 10:30 am: WALKING TOUR of downtown Cross Plains, conducted by Rusty Burke. Meet at the Ice House on Main Street (next to Subway) and walk in the steps of Bob Howard.
10 am - 3 pm: REH Foundation Press canopy and Dealer's Area open on grounds east of Museum.
10 am - 4 pm: Cross Plains Public Library open. Original Robert E. Howard typescripts along with original Weird Tales magazines. There will also be REH-themed board and role-playing gaming here.
11 am - Noon: PANEL: REH and Weird Tales. Panelists: Patrice Louinet, John Betancourt, Bobby Derie, Dennis McHaney. At Cross Plains Methodist Church
LUNCH BREAK
1:30 - 2:30 pm: PANEL: The Art of Weird Tales. Panelists: Dennis McHaney, J. David Spurlock, Michael Tierney + others, At Cross Plains Methodist Church
2:30 - 3:30 pm: PANEL: What's Up with REH? This is our wrap-up panel, devoted to the latest news of Howard publishing, entertainment and how his influence continues. Panelists: Paul Herman, Heroic Signatures + others. At Cross Plains Methodist Church
4 pm: Tour of Museum Grounds. Rusty Burke will give a tour around the House where Howard lived..
4:30 pm: Sunset Barbeque at the Pavilion. Enjoy a Bar-B-Que dinner provided by Project Pride and the Cross Plains Library, compliments of Jack and Barbara Baum.
After the BBQ: Porchlight Poetry. An open mic REH poetry reading, done from the front porch of the Museum. Interspaced throughout this event will be readings of Howard's masterpiece poem, "Cimmeria" in as many as 9 different languages. This year we will allow some poetry of H.P. Lovecraft and Clark Ashton Smith.
REH Fellowship in the Pavilion will continue into the evening..
Note: There will be special announcements, new book releases and signings, surprise guests, impromptu happenings, spontaneous and unscheduled events occurring all weekend at the Pavilion, so please join in and enjoy the continuing REH Fellowship.
REGARDING DEALER'S TABLES: There will be approximately 8 tables available for set up in the yard, first come first served, one per dealer @ $25.00 for the weekend. Pay in the Gift Shop or in advance at Projpride@yahoo.com, or a check to the POB. REH/related items only.
